Seattle Supersonics Team

The Seattle Supersonics is a professional American basketball team that is located in Washington. Presently they play as a member of the Northwest Division of the National Basketball Association (NBA). They bagged the NBA Championship held in 1979. There are three major sports teams located in Seattle, amongst which the Seattle SuperSonics, commonly referred to as the Seattle Sonics is the only team that has managed to win a championship.
However, the Seattle Storm won the WNBA Championship in 2004. During 1978-1985 the SuperSonics' The Wheedle was considered a charm by it and since 1993 that role is being played by the Squatch. They are presently the possession of Oklahoma businessman Clay Bennett plans for the relocation of the franchise after the end of its lease that it has signed with the Key Arena in Seattle that could take place in 2010 or if before that then in 2008-2009 season. The team was relocated in 2008-2009 season on the basis of the conditional approval that was granted by NBA in April 2008. The team was owned by Schulman ever since it was established in 1967 up until 1983. After that its owner was Barry Ackerley during 1983–2001 and then later by the chairman of Starbucks, Howard Schultz during 2001-2006.
It is amongst the seven teams that are included in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association. Its games are held in Washington where it plays wearing green, gold orange and white colored uniforms. It is Seattle’s first ever professional sports franchise. It made its debut in October of 1967 but it did not make it to the playoffs till 1975. Since then it has bagged one NBA title, three Conference Titles and six Division Titles. It made its entry in the team during late 60’s and had a brief brush with success during the 70s and 90s.
They made it to the NBA Finals in the end of 70’s and bagged the 1979 NBA championship. They posted several winning records in the 1990s. During 2004-2005 they won 15 consecutive games. Amongst the lead players was Ray Allen who posted an average of 23.9 points and the team posted a finishing record of 52-30.
They won their final three games. Postseason the Supersonics was able to win the series with great ease against opponents the Sacramento Kings. However they had to face very tough competition in face of the San Antonio Spurs. After they were defeated twice on the road they managed to survive last moments miss from player Tim Duncan. They posted a 92-92 win record and kept their title hopes alive. They won the fourth game at home at a score of 101-89 and tied the series. The Sonics lost the fifth game on the road in which they were headed by Tim Duncan. They posted a finishing win record of 98-96. The SuperSonics was relocated owing to the present stadium conditions and financing, which includes the renovation of the Key Arena.
