Fill That New Humidor With Enough oliva v To Last The NFL Season
The NFL season is just ramping up and I couldn’t be more excited. I have the misfortune of being a Detroit Lions fan, so it’s not like I’m expecting a trip to the Super Bowl or anything like that. Mind you, after a winless season and with the overall number one draft pick -a rookie from Georgia- taking over as quarterback, the season has got to be an improvement over last year.
What I’m really looking forward to is having the boys over for our traditional Monday night football parties. Before I started up this tradition, I was the stereotypical Monday dreading kind of guy. A few years ago, I renovated our unfinished basement, creating my ultimate rec room. My wife was pretty good about it, but I also conceded the rest of the house to her decorating whims, so it seemed to be a fair arrangement. I put in a wet bar, slapped wood paneling over the drywall, installed a big plasma TV and covered the walls with Detroit Lions paraphernalia. It didn’t take long before my basement was the place to be for our football fix, replacing the downtown bar where we used to hang out. When I installed the keg cooler, that was it; Monday night football was no longer an occasional pastime, it was a regularly scheduled event. Last year, we experimented with different regional and microbrew beers. Whatever two teams were scheduled to play on Monday night, we would pick up a sampling of beers brewed in those cities. Both tasty and informative. This year, I’m going to take it up a notch. I had a new ventilation system installed for the basement, as well as my new prized possession: a Don Salvatore Humidor my wife bought me for Christmas.
I was really surprised when I unwrapped that wooden beauty, but my wife said that so long as I took care of venting the smoke outside, it seemed like enjoying a good cigar while lounging around and watching our game was a reasonable choice for helping keep us out of trouble. Thank You, Michelle! She gave me the web site where she’d bought the humidor and I had them send me a catalog of their products. Sixty-four pages of the finest cigars and accessories. Every time I open that thing, it’s like Christmas All Over again. I ordered a variety of cigars, including some sampler bundles, and stocked up the Salvatore.
Big screen TV, football, a row of leather recliners, a cold keg on tap and a good cigar. Monday night couldn’t get much better.
