It seems that anything related to the Dallas Cowboys can generate a massive amount of attention nowadays; such is the case of Michael Irvin who was accused of sexual assault by a woman who is now referred to as Jane Doe. Michael Irvin is a well-known wide receiver who started his carrier at the University of Miami and later became a Pro football player recognized at the Hall of Fame when he joined the Dallas Cowboys.
According to the alleged victim the assault happened between the late hours of the July 4 or early hours of July 5 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood Florida. On the other hand, Irvin's lawyer, Larry Friedman says that these accusations are completely untrue. At the same time a Seminole tribe spokesman said that the incident was reported to the local police on July 20, 2007 but by the time the report was filled there was no longer any forensic evidence or surveillance video to substantiate the accusations.
According to David Lister who is "Jane Doe's" attorney, his client and Irvine's counsel had been in negotiations for a financial settlement for quite some time but nothing came out of it and since that was the case a civil lawsuit was filed. Irvin's lawyer called these negotiations attempts at extortion.
Friedman also said that the woman finally decided to come forward after seeing the now accused football player on a few episodes of the popular TV show "Dancing with the Stars."
Further research on Irvin's past shows that in 1996 this Hall of Fame football player pleaded no contest to a cocaine charge and a few months later that very same year he was also accused of sexual molestation however an investigation revealed that she had made up the whole story.
In an interesting turn of events, Michael Irvin has filed a $100 million countersuit because according to him the lawsuit filed by the woman caused him to be fired from his radio job however, ESPN said in a statement that they had previously decided to cancel the show and that Irvin's contract was up. Irvin said that these accusations are completely false and that they were made in an attempt at extortion by the plaintiff while capitalizing on the media circus at the Super bowl weekend really is.
It is interesting to see that not only the current roster of the Dallas Cowboys is making headlines nowadays with all players are being brought back to the spotlight in less than desirable conditions but hey, if you are a hard-core Dallas Cowboys fan then you got love all this drama.
