Large Ears Can be Reduced With Otoplasty
Ear surgery, or otoplasty, is usually done to set prominent ears back closer to the head or to reduce the size of large ears.
For the most part, the operation is done on children between the ages of four and 14 years old. Teasing and ridiculing due to the size of the child's ears, which are almost fully grown by age four, can be minimized with an early procedure. Ear surgery on adults is also possible, and there are generally no additional risks associated with ear surgery on an older patient, in part because the ears are already fully grown.
If you are considering otoplasty for either you or your child, the information below will help provide you with a basic overview of the procedure, including the conditions that it may be able to assist with, how the surgery is performed, and what can be expected for the results of the procedure.
