Los Angeles Lakers Tickets â Finals Favorites
What is the one thing that could increase the sale of Los Angeles Lakers tickets? Bringing the championship back to L.A., that’s what. The Lakers had a great 2007-2008 season. They dominated the competition in the regular season, securing the number one seed in a stacked Western Conference, and rolled through the conference in the playoffs. But when the Lakers got to the finals, it was a different story. They appeared to be outhustled and pushed around by a more physical Boston Celtics team.
While the Lakers had sailed through the first three rounds of the playoffs, the Celtics had struggled and battled, needing seven games to take down the eighth-seeded Atlanta Hawks in the first round. But the Celtics prevailed in the finals and defeated the Lakers 4-2, completely blowing them out in game six. While I’m still convinced that leprechauns, a pot of gold and perhaps the makers of Guinness and Jameson had some role in the Celtics pulling off the victory, there is no denying that they outplayed the Lake Show. I do, however, still consider the Lakers the favorite to win the NBA Finals in the 2008-2009 campaign.
Kobe Bryant is still the best player in the league until either Lebron James or Chris Paul proves otherwise and I wouldn’t be surprised if Bryant won back-to-back MVP awards. He’s the most versatile scorer in the league and a seven-time All Defensive first teamer. He will probably end up being considered the second-best shooting guard to play the game behind His Airness. He’s one of the biggest attractions the league has and sells more Los Angeles Lakers tickets than any other player on the team.
Paul Gasol, though a little soft at times, is one of the more skilled big men in the NBA. His skill set is more like that of a perimeter player, giving him a devastating offensive attack on the block and from midrange. Plus, he’s an excellent passer, which is paramount in the triangle offense that Head Coach Phil Jackson employs.
Lamar Odom is another great passer and a great third option, but the primary reason I believe the Lakers are the favorite for the title is the return of center Andrew Bynum. Just 20-years-old, Bynum was looking like one of the best big men in the league last season before a knee injury derailed his season. He’s reportedly healthy and ready to go this season. Bynum will fill the void of a defensive presence and toughness in the middle that was exploited by the Boston bigs in the finals. Bynum’s return will also allow Gasol to slide back to his natural position at power forward, as he spent most of his time at the five in Bynum’s absence.
Basketball fans in Southern California should get their Los Angeles Lakers tickets now, because it looks like it’s going to be a banner year for the club in 2008-2009.
